Hey guys!

I am currently doing the 30 day shred but am planning ahead for what to do after this.

Someone suggested doing the P90x so i looked it up online and it seemed to boast about being really good for body and muscle building but didn't really mention if it was any good for the initial weightloss?

Has anyone tried it?

Weight loss is done by being at a calorie deficit. It's 80% diet, 20% training. Any workout program works for fat loss if your diet is in check. The fact is you don't even NEED to workout to lose weight.

In short, get your diet in check. It's far more important for weight loss than a specific training program. However, I will add that resistance training will provide the best body composition improvements while dieting and spare the most amount of muscle mass.

The poster Sublog is absolutely correct.

And yes P90xworks for weight loss, if diet is in check - But keep in mind - scale should not be your only measure. You must use inch loss measurements, clothing fit, mirror check also. And you must be consistent with the plan, as far as exercise, doing it everyday, pushing yourself continually, and sticking with it to get results (true with any program)

Its not magic - but is a solid program, that will give results proportional to what you put into it.

I have lost 60 lbs doing p90X, along with good diet, with high protein diet. (7 rounds of classic) - BUT more importantly, have lost inches, size, and gained strength and tighten all over. I have muscle definition, and cut abs.

I actually weigh about 10 lbs more then last time I was at this same clothing size - but I am tighter all over, smaller all over, not jiggly, and look better dressed and undressed.

A scale cannot accurately tell you if you have improved body composition by gaining or improving your muscle mass, and will often show a small gain, if you do add on muscle - but you LOOK smaller. So do not get stuck on the scale number only, just use it as one tool. But its not the whole picture.

See these examples. (these are not me)

Same weight both pictures, but she started lifting heavy weights, and lost fat, and improved her muscle definition

She is heavier in the after picture, after losing fat, and gaining/improving muscle - but looks smaller

These results are common with a program of heavy lifting, such as P90X, and reflect results I have seen also in my body.

My last P90X round I lost 20 lbs, but tightened a lot. (it was a classic doubles round with heavy weights low reps) I do not follow the P90 diet plan.

I am almost at my goal range size now, just cutting the last bodyfat levels, and hitting some stubborn areas. Then I will work more at adding on some more muscle.

For me 30DS was not as effective, I had better overall results with P90X in 30 days, then with 30 days of 30DS. But everyone has their preferred programs and trainers that best suit them.

You may also want to look at Chalene Extreme - very similar to P90X, But geared a bit more to a beginner, with some great helps on form from Chalene. Also an excellent program for adding Heavy Lifting into your plan

Most MFP'ers report loss of inches and not much weight with 30DS so you are already along the same lines on workout-type it is just more challenging and longer.

Love this!! I was going to say something along the same lines, but then I read this and figured I'd just quote it!
  • Yes it does. My husband lost 60 lbs doing the program. He did keep his diet in check and making sure he ate correctly got him to his goal faster.

it will definitely tighten you up all over.
  • I would have to say YES! most definitively. I'm on my second time through it and still going. It can be very very tough at first. I threw up my first couple of times. Take it slow and don't over work and you will see the results very quickly.

I wrote a personal review with my results video if anyone is interested :)

    good luck to you all.
