4 minutes of hiit ??

Okay, I have a question... I do understand HIIT training. I did turbo fire with them in there, but even those videos were about 20 min long. someone was telling me that doing only 4 min of hiit is good enough... doing 20 sec of full speed (on elliptical or treadmill) then rest for 10 then back again for 20. doing that for 4 min. I asked what calories they were burning during that time, and they said that the calories don't matter, its getting your metabolism up. But honestly, is that enough to actually lose any weight???
Although, this is not something that I would do, I'd prefer the 20 min at least like in turbo fire.
any opinions, you just may be settling a bet lol
