Snacking and im not hungry :(

I am someone who enjoys food and cooking up new things of mixed items. I will eat when I am hungry and then have a snack or two before the next meal. The problem is i'm not even hungry when i snack i just do it simply because i am either bored or see someone else eating. I work at a fast food restaurant so it makes it hard to walk away from the food and do something else. and also when im at home if i want something i get it. my girlfriend is also using MFP with me but when i want to snack she's not going to tell me 'don't eat that' or 'no'. i have been told water water water. i have had nothing but water since starting MFP and i drink over 64oz a day. What can i do to resist the want to snack even when not hungry?

If you're still around your calorie goal for the day I don't see any problem with snacking. If, however, it's a habit that is detrimental to your goals, get a new habit. Drink water, as you have been, and stay busy. Do something with your hands. Chew gum. Most importantly, track everything you eat. Maybe just seeing the snacks add up will be enough for you.

However I don't necessarily believe that our bodies can be counted on to tell us when to eat. I eat lunch whether I'm hungry or not, because I know I need the fuel.

    Snack on celery...or ice!

This may not be the best approach for everyone, but what works for me is translating what I'm about to put into my mouth into exercise.

Specialty coffee drinks really get me, but when I think of them in terms of 30+ minutes jogging, I decide they're not worth it most of the time. I'd rather have the calories of my workout go toward my deficit.

I also plan my snacks in advance, which helps.

"my girlfriend is also using MFP with me but when i want to snack she's not going to tell me 'don't eat that' or 'no' " Why does she need to tell you not to snack? Maybe I'm taking it wrong but it sounds like you expect her to tell you not to eat something instead of deciding to do it on your own.

If you are snacking properly, measuring and recording it properly and staying within your calories there's no harm.
  • If you don't have the calories to snack...don't do it, you're an adult and in total control of your behaviour...exercise for those extra calories, go for a walk, chew gum..or cave, just do it knowing that you don't have the extra cals to afford it and feel no guilt.
