Eating at the Cafeteria and calorie counting

I live in residence (until April anyway), which means I eat all my meals in a cafeteria and a lot of the food served either isn't in the database or I have no idea what they've put in it. I'm just wondering how others get around this? I try to eat things that I know are healthy (veggies, yogurt, salad, grilled chicken, fish, ect..) but even seemingly healthy food can have a lot of extra stuff in it that loads up on the calories. So I never really know if my calorie count is accurate or not.
Just wondering if others have this problem and if they find it frustrating as well.
