Max's Weekend Movie Review
                    Groundhog Day (1993)

"A weather man is reluctantly sent to cover a story about a weather forecasting "rat" (as he calls it). This is his fourth year on the story, and he makes no effort to hide his frustration. On awaking the 'following' day he discovers that it's Groundhog Day again, and again, and again. First he uses this to his advantage, then comes the realisation that he is doomed to spend the rest of eternity in the same place, seeing the same people do the same thing EVERY day."
Ok, so I Tivo'd this over the weekend but didn't watch it until last night. But since it showed over the weekend, it qualifies as a weekend review. So there.
I had seen most of this movie a year or so ago but this was the first time I had watched it completely. It's an entertaining movie and brings up a lot of interesting discussions of "what would you do if you lived the same day over and over?".
Bill Murray's character (Phil Conners) seems to live the first hour of each day about the same way - wake up, shower, breakfast and then report on Groundhog Day celebration in Punxsutawney. It's after that is where he elects to change each day. What is interesting is trying to determine how long he is stuck in this time loop. Is it a month? A year? Several years? I would say several years based on the fact that he 1) becomes fluent in French and 2) becomes an accomplished pianist and 3) learns to ice sculpture. Each one of those would take months or years to master. And it would be safe to assume that he could only learn one of those at a time, i.e., spend a few years learning piano, then the next year or so learning French, etc
I was also reminded that teeth whitening hadn't been introduced yet in 1993 because Murray's teeth and Andie McDowell's teeth could use some serious whitening.
So, what would you do if you lived the same day over and over again?

I am more of a Steve Martin fan....but Bill Murray is OK. I prefer him in Ghostbusters though!0

Andie McDowell lives about 1/2 hour from here - we run into her at restaraunts and use to see her at dance competitions - actually my daughters group shared a dressing room with her daughter - she wasn't very friendly
not so perfect up close in reality - pretty but not perfect0
