Flexibility

I have never ever been flexible. Even as a child I was always jealous of my "bendy" friends. I am in my mid 30s and always been athletic and into fitness but i always skip the stretches or do the bare min.

I was wondering if there are any good dvd's or programs out there that focus on flexibility. Ones that may have worked for others in the same situation. I don't just want to go all willy-nilly to the store and buy a yoga dvd expecting it to work for me.

It may be way old but Callanetics works wonders for me. Without it I can't get even close to touching my toes with straight knees... But with it my belly flattens my legs get leaner and I'm able to touch snd go farther with ease.

It's just a matter of working at it and understanding that it will take some time. And make sure you warm up! I actually stretch best after my full cardio. DO NOT DO STATIC STRETCHES COLD. I like to make sure I hold each stretch for at least a minute and breath. Concentrate on the breathing and you won't feel the pain so much. I take deep breathes in and try to sink into the stretch on the exhale. Maybe try a yoga class, too since that is basically what I just described! :) It will take longer than you probably even think to be "bendy" if you weren't blessed with those genetics.

Thanks ladies! I will look for some short dvds I can do at the house after my current workouts.

I'm not ever expecting to be bendy but at least graceful when I bend to pick something up! hehehe

The best stretch I've seen in a workout video is from Insanity..definitely be good and warm when you do it!
