Have you been where I am now?

Okay, I'm not sure if there is a medical term for this, but I'm addicted to SWEETS! No. I mean really addicted. Some days I can go with just 1 sweet treat, but most days, especially TOM there is no use to fight it....I eat the fruit, pudding, drinking water... but still end up eating the cookie, low cal ice cream, or whatever else.
Yesterday, I worked out, buring about 345 calories (HRM). Had dinner, 1 drumstick, less than 1/2 a cup of mashed potatoes.... then I ate 2 swiss rolls (chocolate) and a 100 calorie, klondike ice cream.... blowing the calories I just burned and went over
I do this all the time.
when I exercise.
I've tried keeping it out of the house, but with a teenager, I can always find something sweet at my house... honey smacks, cap'n crunch, pop tarts, etc.
I'm to the point where I'm thinking of replacing a meal with my sweet treats and just give in.
My question:
Will I still lose weight, if I replace a meal with sweet treats but stay within my calories? Will I be a flabby size 8 although I'm exercising?
Have you been where I am? I need some ideas, advice, tongue-lashing, butt kicking... anything!

replacing a meal with sweets to stay in your calories is a bad bad idea....working out more to have a sweet would be better but still not good
if you tough it out for a bit your body will get away from that sweet craving and you will feel 10 times better...guaranteed...
no pain no gain? well,,,,a bit of will power...just do it for a week...you can do anything for aweek
and you will like the results0 -
Let yourself have the sweets. Just make them worth it. I LOVE the Dove Dark Chocolate Promises. They"re not quite 45 calories a piece and they are just the chocolate fix I need and after a healthy dinner.0
-
I was going to say the same thing as Dave. If you can keep yourself away from them for a while you will lose the urge to eat them. I was addicted to CC cookies I would love to bake them and eat a lot of them. I very rarely have a sweet and when I do it is almost to sweet to eat.
You can do it0 -
I have been where you are. I love sweets and chocolate is my downfall, so instead of denying myself then bingeing I allow myself two small pieces a day it ends us being around 88 calories. I factor it into one of my snacks and it has been working for me. Good luck!!0
-
i've been exactly where you are., it takes 3 weeks to form a habit. so i promised myself i would do it, TRY anyway. i still have pudding sometimes, but don't keep it in the house for me to cheat with. you can do it! i buy yogurts, fruits, make smoothies, etc. the more you don't fixate on it, it'll go away. you run your life, not your addiction!:drinker:0

I agree that you shouldn't replace meals with a sweet treat. However, you should be grateful to learn this about yourself and know that you have to figure out a way to budget in sweets to your program. This is a life change and you need to figure out what works for you. Sometimes through trial and error. You can either ramp up the exercise to compensate for the calories or just eat more conservatively to make room for a sweet treat. Also it sounds like there might be some "trigger" foods on your sweet list. If so you need to just consider yourself alergic to those and make sure to not have them around or eat the first bite.0
-
Since you lose self control with them- Dont eat them at all and you will lose the urge for them as well- also look at how many calories it isand think how long it takes to burn that off. It really isn't worth it. I wouldn't replace a meal with a treat because the treat only is good at that time but you will end up being hungry afterwards and prone to eat more- Just stop eating the junk until you are more able to control the junk food0
-
Yes, I have been where you are!! And having sweets around at all was NOT an option. When you are addicted, you can't just stop at 1. Sadly, Dave is correct. The only way to conquer the craving/addiction is to completely abstain for a period of time. Now, I can have some dark chocolate squares here at work and generally only eat 1 a day - a couple of days a week, but as the stress level builds, I couldn't stop so I didn't buy another bag. If you want to be free from the addiction, you have to master it! If not, then there's no use playing at it because it will kick your butt and the guilt issue will make it worse. Good luck in whatever you decide to do!! :flowerforyou:
I used the analogy the other day that our bodies are like a high performance sports car - you need premium unleaded fuel to function properly - and adequate amounts to go the distance. If you want to fuel your body to work out you need good fuel and straight sugar isn't good, long term fuel. Oh, if only it were so

Hi, I'm new to this forum but was reading your post. I'm a nurse and live with a roomate who is overweight also. She has the same problem and has a condition called polycystic ovary disease which cause insulin surges immediately after a meal and during a meal which makes her crave sweets big time. Not saying you should run right out to your gyno but it's a thought and would explain the sweet attack. My daughter also has it and has been put on Metformin and is loosing weight. Check it out on web md or ask Dr. Weil (sp). Luck0

Welcome back, Dave! We've missed your no-nonsense message!
Spicy- GET THE JUNK OUT OF YOUR HOUSE!!!!!!!!!I totally understand where you are. I, too, am totally chocolate addicted. If it's here, I'll EAT it!:grumble: And I mean ALL of it. I had to clear out my house- and I have young kids who want a cookie for dessert! I do have 60 calorie sugar-free pudding and diet hot chocolate when I really must have something! After a while, you will be able to satisfy that sweet craving with smaller, more intense choices. A half ounce of dark chocolate is enough to satisfy that jones for me now- and only 100 cals!
You can DO IT, girl!!!!:flowerforyou:0 -
I definitely would not replace a meal with sweets. Choose options that are low fat for your sweets - Skinny Cows, Breyers Ice Cream cups, Cadbury Thins, etc and keep these items in the house so that they are available for you to eat when you feel the urge for a sweet. Try to stay within your daily cal allotement though. SO the majority of fat free sweets are about 100-150 cal, so make sure that you save this amount for that treat.
I personally am not a sweets person, but a salts person. I prefer chips. But I avoid them and instead have crispie mini's or melba toast.
There are always options for healthier options when it comes to sweets and salts.
There is also a ntaural supplement that is available through Herbal Magic called Chromagic. It contains Chromium which is a stabalizer for blood sugar levels and helps to curb the cravings for sweets and saltys. You might be able to locate a similar product from your health food store if you do not have a Herbal Magic nearby. Or even check out eBay or online for it. It works wonders.
Good Luck....Just remember to stay within those calories and don't feel bad when you have a sweet, just make sure it's a low fat option.0 -
Just say no-- if you're addicted, you can't have any-- break the addiction and stay away!0

YES I DID AND DO!!! Here is what I do I workout for the Sweet that I will be having every day. Say if I ma going to have a bar of Dove choccolate I workout to burn for the 250 extra calories that I know I will get... It seems to work for me.. But please don't deprive yourself... It only gets worse if you did that....I love DARK CHOCCOLATE and that usually does the trick for me...Have you tried it??
Goo Luck to you0 -
Dave is "right on", everything in moderation. Have you discussed this sweet addiction as you refer to it with your doctor? Are you diabetic? Could you be? When was the last time you had your sugar checked?
I only ask because I am type 2 diabetic and use to crave sweets, or would teeter back and forth with needing sweets, then salt, then sweets then salt. Changing habits take time. But since eating right and exercising more....I'm keeping everything in check, and the craving have subsided, and instead of a cookie, its a carrot stick
Best wishes for a happy healthy you,
Debbie0 -

Welcome back Dave!
Thanks to all for the advice and encouragement. :flowerforyou:
I've been invited to a challenge in the "I need a fitness buddy part 2 thread-- I'm gonna take it! It will be the:
"No Sweets for 30 days"! Beginning April 1st.
At the end, I will have beat my "addiction".
If that doesn't work, I will look into those medical conditions and the health food store.
Thanks a bunch guys.0 -
I'm honestly not that big on sweets (weird, I know) but I'm definitely addicted to salty things like chips.
I found I couldn't completely avoid these cravings so I found alternatives. I get 100 calorie packs of chips and portion out pretzel sizes.
For you, I would suggest chocolate protein bars. I reallly like Clif Bar Z Bars. They're for children but they taste like brownies and cookies, NO JOKE. I think they only have 110 calories, are organic and have tons of vitamins for you.
I also make my own trail mix with peanut m&ms, almonds and raisins. It's a healthier quick fix!
Hope this helps!
Good Luck!0 -
I too love sweets.. did I say love?
yes, love. I have been on my lifelong lifestyle change now for, well, today is day 11. I love my Dr. Pepper the most, I used to drink 4-6 cans of DP a day! now, I limit myself to one with my dinner meal, and I account for it in my daily diary at the very beginning of the day. I cant avoid something i love forever, so moderation is the key for me... so I allow myself one.
As for the sweets, I like to occasionally have a fudgcicle bar as a treat. the low fat variety are very good, nice and chocolaty and creamy, and easy on the fat... I have one 2-3 times a week.
It is all about moderation, and being able to live the lifestyle forever.. so for me, I cant go cold turkey or I WILL fall off the wagon... having an occasional "treat" helps me hang on tight to the wagon0 -

If you've lost 18 lbs since January - I would highly doubt that you have either PCOS or T2 diabetes. You're doing great! Congratulations. You can beat this sweet thing - I know you can :drinker:
The first few days are TOUGH - then somewhere in the second week or so it will hit hard again (the craving) but if you hold strong by the end of the 30 days you will be pretty well good to go. Just be careful after that about the availability of sweets as, for a while anyway, you can slip right back into the habit then addiction. Good luck on your challenge!0 -

I don't mind giving myself a sweet treat here and there, but if it is that much of a problem for you, you should consider keeping the stuff OUT of your home. If it's not there you can't eat it, right?0
