i am bulking and aim for 1lb a week gains. i eat roughly 2500 cals a day and aim for 200 grams of protein. i lift full body 3x a week for 65min. cardio on other days. sunday is rest. now there is this lady at the gym who did a fitness competition(bikini) last year. i would like to eventually do one so i asked her for help. here is what she said:
eat 1500 calories a day. lower carbs and fat, eat mostly protein.
lift 6 days a week(different muscle groups)
30-60 min of cardio 6 days a week
no carbs after 3pm
then she said that i am eating way too much as this is how a male would eat to bulk. then informed me that you do not need to eat at a surplus to build muscle and that i am misinformed. she said all i need to do is eat lots of protein, lift heavy, and recover and i will build muscle. am i crazy or is this correct infomation? she said she got all her info from a coach and by doing research............

no, that information is simply ridiculous. you won't bulk eating 1500 calories a day. In fact, you'd likely lose muscle. You have it right, she has it wrong. 1500 calories a day won't even be maintenance, so where will your body get energy? Answer...your muscles. Do not listen to her if you want to gain a pound a week you NEED to eat at a surplus. 2500 is barely even a surplus with a routine like that. You might be at a 300 surplus tops. So I'd stick to 2500 minimum and just wait it out.0

i have considered upping my intake a bit but i seem to be doing good with the 2500. i have gained about 12lbs in 14weeks... next weigh in is on monday0

if you're on track then why would you even consider listening to her? she sounds like a moron to be honest. how in the sam hell could you bulk while eating at a deficit? makes ZERO sense. you're doing great, keep it up.0

She's just jealous because you look better than her and she's afraid...0

thank you guys? anybody else have any idea?0

You need the calorie surplus to fuel work outs AND repair. Sure you can have a TON of protein in your diet, yet if you are burning 3,000 cal and only eating 2,000 just because you get 200g of protein doesn't mean you will still build muscle mass.0
