New way of thinking (running)

So I started running last September. I had never ran as exercise before this. My neighbor is in a Galloway group (Run/walk) and they were getting ready to start training for a half marathon. I decided that this would really help my weight loss / training goals. I had been spinning and swimming and doing weights and elipitical. I had lost about 20 pounds using MFP. Eating less and exercising really does work. I recently joined a triathlon club I wanted some more goals to train for after the half. They just posted the times of the members who completed the half. Mine was the slowest time. I was pretty bummed out by this. I knew I wasn't very fast, but being a guy I wanted to beat somebody. This morning it hit me I was thinking about this the wrong way. All during my training I was just trying to complete the half. I was not a runner and had never run 13.1 miles maybe in all my life. I actually enjoy running ( I am going to run the bridges tonight with my wife 5.5 miles with 3 bridges). I am in better shape then I have been in a long time. My pants fall off when I loosen my belt. I have leg muscles. I have lost 52 pounds:smile: I own running clothes, I have a nice road bike. And I can wrap a towel around my waist and not have to hold it to keep it from falling off. I am going to have to buy some smaller clothes and I am going to keep running as fast as I can. So when you go by me or someone passes you just be happy that you are out there and remember your miles count the same as the faster people.

Good for you!!!!! I'm also a runner/ triathlete. I couldn't run a mile in high school, so to think at almost 32 I'm in better shape than I was then is pretty awesome. Good luck on your future races!! :flowerforyou:
  • Thank you!!!!! I was on the treadmill today and a Skinny girl came in, ran like the wind and left. I was still there...jogging along. But I don't think she could last 60 min like I did! :glasses:

    I am a runner.

Great story man, Thanks for sharing it.
I just started running recently and I am very much enjoying it. I know I'm not the fastest but I am getting better, faster and stronger every day and that is what matters. This post was a good reminder of this. Your kids should be proud of their father your setting a great example.

Cheers to us slow runners!:drinker: lol:laugh:
