confused about beans!

Tomorrow I thought i would eat beans instead of red meat. And I figure I make tostadas or some ppl call them chalupas. I am making them with just white corn tortillas, fat free cheese and beans..
I scanned the pinto bean bag and says 1/4 cup is 60 calories. sodium is 15,protein is 7 etc.. SO I am wondering? after they are cooked, are nutritional values all the same, or do they change? AND is 1/4 cup the same amount dry as it will be weighed in after it is cooked? Anyone know about this? Oh yes and not to mention I will put them in the pan and smash them too. So yea I been researching and the more I do the more I get confused.

If you are making dry bean they are referring to dry measurements. The only way I have figured out how to cook them is to measure them into the pot including any extra salt I cook them with, then measure them when they are done cooking. So for example say I measure 4 servings into the pot to cook and when they are done I measure them again and divide the amount by 4. If I were going to mash them I imagine the results of dividing them would give me the same results. Good luck and if you find a better way to do dry beans let me know.0

1 cup dry beans usually (depending on the kind of bean) equals 2.5 cups cooked beans. Hope that helps!0

^this...also I use the recipe calculator on here to help keep track of the changes/additions and keep my calorie count accurate. Ex: I would enter your meal as tostada/chalupa and put in the ingredients for the entire dish, and # of servings-this makes it very easy to add to your diary on here without always having to do the math...0 -
thanks ladies, and is the nutrional value remain or do I lose some?0
