Meal Plan Using Diabetic Exchange System Help

When I was pregnant I followed a meal plan created by a dietitian. The plan helped me space out my exchanges in order to keep my blood sugar balanced. Now that I am not pregnant, I do not need as many calories and I am not sure how many exchanges I need in each category and how to space it out throughout the day. I am on a 1260 calorie per day diet.
Does anyone else use the exchange system, and how do you plan your meals/snacks?

On http://www.dietitian.com/diabexch.html#8 I found a basic plan for a 1200 calorie per day diet that included 4 protein, 3.5 starch, 3 milk, 3 vegetables, 3 fruit, and 5 fat. I usually eat 6 small meals or snacks per day. If I go more than 3-4 hours without eating I feel shaky and sluggish. According to my last glucose test I passed, but the doctor said my sugar was low that day. She recommended I eat more often to keep the sugar levels balanced.0
