This recipe is an absolute favorite of mine. My boyfriend used to order this at a restaurant, and I would get jealous because they didn't have a seafood variation (and I don't eat steak). So I asked for the recipe, and, amazingly, they gave it to me.

Thai Holy Basil with Beef Stir Fry
(as the restaurant gave it to me)
Serves 4
stir_fried_beef2.jpg

Ingredients:
3 tablespoons peanut oil
4 cloves garlic, chopped
12 ounces lean steak, very thinly sliced
1 small onion, cut into wedges
1/2 cup sliced crimini mushrooms
4 fresh Thai chiles, known as 'mouse dropping chilies'
3 tablespoons Thai fish sauce
1 teaspoon brown sugar
20 Holy Basil leaves, the smaller the better

Cook:
- Heat your wok over high heat. AS warming, add the oil.
- Once the oil heats up, stir-fry the garlic and the beef for 2 minutes.
- Add the rest of the ingredients and continue stir-frying for an additional 2 minutes

Thai Holy Basil with Shrimp Stir Fry
(this is my take on their recipe)
Serves 4

Ingredients:
1 tbsp olive oil
2 cloves of garlic, roughly chopped
1 tbsp fresh ginger, roughly chopped
16 oz shrimp, raw and peeled with tails on
1 small onion cut into wedges
½ cup sliced button mushrooms
2 habanera peppers, roughly chopped
3 tbsp Thai fish sauce
1 tsp brown sugar
20 basil leaves
½ tsp black pepper (Holy Basil has a slightly peppery flavor. If you can’t find Holy Basil, add black pepper to mimic the taste with regular Italian basil.)

Cook:
- In a food processor puree the garlic, ginger, and peppers. Set aside.
- Heat a large skillet over high heat. As warming, add the oil.
- Once the oil heats up, stir-fry the pureed mixture and shrimp for 2 min.
- Add the rest of the ingredients and continue stir-frying for an additional 2 min.

Nutritional Information
Serving Size- ¼ of prepared recipe
Calories 167.4
Total Fat 5.4 g
Total Carbohydrate 4.2 g
Protein 24.4 g

I hope that you enjoy both recipes.

You're braver than me! It's already eye-watering-spicy to me, but so yummy.

 It's funny, my husband and I ususally have to spend a few minutes convincing the waiter that we do know what we are doing ordering Thai food 'Thai hot". I would get HORRIBLE heartburn from peanut butter when I was pregnant, but could eat Thai food so hot I was sweating...LOVE IT! Thanks again for the recipe!
