Best Foods To Eat On A Buffet

Let me start off by saying that I am NOT a fan of buffets, even prior to trying to lose weight I found them gross and rarely went to one. However tonight my husband and I are going out with some good friends who are visiting from out of town. Their choice for the evening? A buffet at our local casino, since they are our guests, I am not going to complain.
Anyway, from what I hear it is a nicer, up-scale buffet with a lot of choices. I looked on their website and there isn't anything listed as what exactly is on the buffet, but Friday nights are Fish Fry & Shrimp night. I hate not being able to allot for my calories for the evening since I have no idea what to expect. What should I eat more of? What should I avoid?
Thanks in advance!

If I'm trying to stay low on calories, I usually start with a whole plate of salad, then move on the rotisserie chicken, and a baked potato. A couple of cookies for desert.0

I usually go for salad and fruit first... maybe a bit of cottage cheese to get some protein and make you feel more full. Then I take small portions of the 'dinner' food -- mostly vegetables and a small serving of grilled meat (no fried!) or pasta.0

Pretty much the same stuff you would eat otherwise.
You don't have control of the ingredients which makes things a little more iffy, but stick with the basics. Clean breads, fruits and veggies with little/no dressing/toppings. Meats with little/no sauces.0
