Dry ingredients into cooked: need some help please!

So this has plauged me for years and I have never figured it out. If i cook 1/4 or 50g of rice, which is a serving for my brown rice, does that mean that the whole amount that is cooked is the same single serving? Ive tried weighing out the rice once cooked and the 50g cooked is not very much. Same goes for pasta. I know this might seem obvious to others but I am stumped!
