I started eating better and exercising on the 18th so a week from today and I've done sooooo good but today I didn't eat as well as I should have, all I kept thinking about was bad food I could be eating... how do you guys tell yourself to slow down or not to eat the unhealthy food that your brain tells you to hurry up and go eat. I know that it's ok to go off the diet a little but it's just so discouraging when you do so good and then your mind tells you how good those cookies smell lol...

I don't deny myself anything- I will allow it as long as it fits in my calories I refuse to go over my calories and I am losing at a steady pace not to mention I also realizes what it takes to burn the calories from bad choices so they dont seem so appealing to me.

I try to ignore desserts. I gave them up for lent, and it's been difficult. Then I look at a cookie and I just think "that's 200 calories that I don't need to be eating!"

I think about the way I'll feel after I eat the bad thing, not because I will literally gain weight that second cause that won't happen but I know I won't feel very good mentally and physically! Hope that helps

Once a week I have a FREE day and enjoy food I don't allow myself during the week. Although, I still try to keep in moderation.

Also, my husband is big on sweets so it is hard sometimes, but if I have the extra points I will take a really small portion, like 2 or 3 small bites and that seems to calm the craving.

I include treats into my daily menu. I have non-diet hot chocolate with mini marshmallows quite regularly. I also eat a warm M&M cookie about once a week from the school caf. My bf makes delicious, healthy versions of yummy things like black pepper chicken and beef broccoli stir fry. Every once in a while I get a scoop of ice cream. This is about moderation, not deprivation. Include the things you like but control yourself when you're eating them. Savor every bite.

What motivates me is Self talk and pictures of myself from last yr. A friend made me a scrapbook and the pictures of me at my highest weight make me more determined to change my lifestyle. I tell myself I deserve a happy healthy life, I am worth it, I can do it, nothing taste as good as thin feels, that I'm proud of myself, I'm a good person, I'm beautiful, .....I fill my head with good thoughts and feelings.....learning to be as good to myself as I am to others.

I just count my sweets into my calories. I found these great little dark chocolate triangles at Trader Joes and they are only 35 calories per wedge. I love chocolate so they're perfect for me. I allow myself 1-2 pf them per day (if I want to), and they satisfy my craving...And Sunday's are my free day. I pretty much allow myself anything I want to eat. It's my favorite day of the week!

so far, I've been managing to keep my eyes on the goal... and all my little/mini goals... And I'm just not overthinking everything.

when I do think of the food I shouldn't have, I tell myself repeatedly "I don't need it" or "it's not worth it" until I believe it lol.

and also I've been letting myself have a 'splurge meal' once a week, just to get cravings out of my system. I sit down and enjoy this meal as much as I possibly can. I will move it to once every two weeks and probably eventually to once a month as time goes by... but so far it's keeping my sanity.

This is a great policy! We put a stipulation in our contract that we get a meal a week that has no limitations. It keeps the binge days at bay and it also helps shock the body to iliminate stagnation.

We also took what we call fat pictures. Nothing but our underwear from all angles. Looking at them is plenty motivation.

Also if you get to the gym regularly, the first two weeks are hell, but afterwards it becomes an addiction!
  • Great advice guys, thanks! Next time I want that pizza or brownie I will try these tips... I'm so happy I found this site because I've been getting tons of help, thanks again!
