What are the best exercises for my 'bad' areas?

So, I carry my excess weight in my belly (post 3 children) and in my thighs.
I'm not sre which I hate more, fat gut or fat legs . . . Anyhow, I've made great changes in my diet and am seeing good results, but I have not 'met' my exercise goal each week, because I get bored. Luckily, I have access to a weight room (at work) but i will be honest and tell you that I may be a bit embarrassed to work out around these athletes, and co-workers until I lose a little more.
I don't mind the ellyptical right now, but I wonder what more I could be doing to focus on my problem areas.
Anyone want to offer some suggestions??

I'm just under 5'4, petite frame and ready to kick it in gear.

My goal is to not have my tthighs touching . . . someday!
