Can't do lunges and squats

So, because of knee problems, for which I will probably have surgery next month and then again later this year, I have been told to stay away from squats and lunges. What are some decent alternatives that will will be good for my legs but a little easier on my knees? Specifically, I'm looking for substitutes in the 30 Day Shred workouts.

Just do what you can. The last thing you need is to hurt yourself before surgery.0

Can't help with the 30DS but remember those good old fashioned leg lifts that Jane Fonda would do and that Tammi Lee Webb did in legs of steel? I do a class where the instructor drops us on the floor for 10 minutes of different types of leg raises and I am whimpering by the time we are finished and they don't affect your knees. The killer ones are the ones that target the hard to get areas (saddle bags and inner thighs). The thing is though you have to do it past the point of discomfort and I can't make myself do them without the peer pressure of a class!0
