Hi My name is Dawn and I live in Wales, UK. In 2005 I weighed 110kg or 242 pounds and then I had a kidney transplant. Since then, the drugs, in particular the prednisolone steroids, have taken a toll on my weight. I have been finding it increasingly difficult to get around and breathing has become a real issue.
Things came to a head at Christmas. I visited relatives and quite literally got stuck in one of their chairs. I was mortified and vowed to do something about it but I didn't know what.
A radio advert for a diet delivery service caught my attention and I decided to check it out. The cost seemed ridiculous to me for ready prepared chilled meals. So I checked out my local supermarket to see if I could find the same kind of products. Turns out I could - they did a complete range of meals with low fat and calories ranging from 300-450 a meal. the range included snack, yoghurts, cake and cuppa soups. With my husband's help, we devised a meal plan that would allow me cereal, a couple of snacks, a cuppa soup and a main meal each day. This would bring me in just under 1000 calories a day. Without any exercise this seems adequate.
While checking out the calories in a particular food, I came across MFP and joined to gain access to the Database.
I joined on the 6th Jan and at that time I weighed 144.6kg (319 pounds almost). As you can see from my ticker down there, I have since lost 28 pounds/13kg.
The first couple of days on my new diet, I'll admit I was hungry and tempted to break the diet. With my husband's support and encouragement, I managed to get over that.
Since then, my appetite has waned considerably and it's all I can do to eat my main meal.
Sunday is my day off. I eat a normal full Sunday lunch - Roast beef with all the trimmings. Monday, I'm back on the wagon. I would have been happy with a couple of pounds loss each week but at the moment, I seem to be dropping a couple of pounds a day. I'm more than thrilled. I know that soon I'm going to have to add exercise to my diet but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I have a gym with various pieces of equipment - it's just finding the energy to use it.
Anyway, TL;DR. Start weight 319 pounds, weight today 291 pounds.
