Important question hopefully someone can answer it for me. When using a hrm while exercising, when should I stop the hrm. When my heart rate drops to where it should be w/o exercising? or right when I am done working out? Sooo confused. Please help!!

I usually turn it off after my cool down. If I'm not actively trying to burn more calories I don't feel the need to keep counting them. I acknowledge the "after burn" and just consider them a bonus. I believe in cooling down and not sitting down right away. If I'm trying to challenge myself and burn a lot in a short amount of time I might turn it off very soon after my hr starts to go down or else my cals per minute don't look that high. That's just a personal preference though.

There was just a big discussion about the "type" to get. Do you know what kind you want? I have the polar ft7 and love it! It really helped me. I lost about 25lbs using it before I signed up here.

I cut mine on right before I start and if there's a break where they're explaining a move or something, I'll pause it but then I don't stop counting unless I'm completely finished working out.

There are a lot of pretty expensive ones out there but I got mine from Target for about $45 and it's waterproof for 50m and I love it so far :) It's by New Balance.
  • I want to keep an eye on this to see what more people say; my HRM (FT7) will be here tuseday at the latest.

I used to stop mine as soon as i'd finished on what ever equpment i was using but recently i started stopping it when my heart rate level goes back to or under my target range which is 119 at the moment. it usually only takes a minute or 2 before it reaches that depending on how high my heart rate was.

I do want a Polar, just have to decide which one :)
  • I have a sportline but thinking of getting a Polar. I was 250 dropped 50 just exercising and eating less. I have another 30 to go and it seems like nothing is happening no matter how hard I work at it. So I made a decision to invest in a good hrm. I dropped those first 50 lbs in about 4 months with no problem, but I was 22 back then. Now I'm 30 and its quite difficult. :explode:
