Rusted Rear Subframe--Help!

Anyone know anything about cars? I have a 2002 Hyundai Elantra. I just got a call from the mechanic that it won't pass inspection due to the rear passenger subframe being rusted. I purchased the vehicle used not even a year ago.
I now have to take to a body shop for repair. How costly might this be? I see there was a recall but not for the REAR subframe. Any thought or advice?

If you bought it from a dealer I would report that to them.
Sounds like it could be from an earlier collision, and if the title was a salvage or otherwise not clean title, they should have disclosed that to you, by law.0 -
The only way to know is to call 3-4 mechanics and get quotes.
But you should also try calling Hyundai corporate. Some companies take that kind of issue seriously.
From a google search, I found a thread where Hyundai was fixing some pretty old cars. Give it a shot.0 -
I purchased from a used car dealership...not from Hyundai. I am going to call Hyundai corporate.
Title was clean.
TY folks!0
