I am participating in a Biggest Loser challenge at work. The winner will be based on percentage of body weight lost. So in order to lose, say, 10% of their body weight, someone who weighs 250 would have to lost 25 pounds and someone who weighs 200 would only have to lose 20, right? I remember watching Celebrity Fit Club and they also went by percentage lost. I am sure there is a reason for this but I dont know what it is.

Will I lose weight at a faster rate than someone who weighs less than me (but is still overweight)?

Someone who weighs more can lose weight a little more easily because their BMR is higher.

Not to mention someone who starts at a lower weight cannot lose as much weight as someone with a higher weight. It would be ridiculously unfair to do it just by lbs lost when someone weighs 400 lbs and the other weighs 200. But yea, basically the more you weigh, the easier it will be to burn calories / lose weight.
  • when it comes to a "contest" situation. i think the fairer option is definately a %

the bigger u r the more it drops off.

    good luck :o)
