So I went to Costco today with my boyfriend and his mom. I was having a great day, foodwise and otherwise, until we finished shopping. We got a cartload of healthy foods and paid and then decided to sit down at the very unhealthy fast food area. UGH.. My boyfriend went to get us drinks while I sat with his mom - who is also losing weight. He comes back with a diet coke for his mom, a sundae for him, and a very unhealthy iced mocha and a hotdog for me!!! How could I say I didn't want that when his mom had paid for it? I guess I should have been more specific when ordering but I had no idea what they had and said get whatever you think I'll like...

How do you turn down food in awkward situations? Like when a mother in law makes it and you know its unhealthy? Or when someone orders appetizers and expects you to eat them?

That is rather awkward... Here's what I "think" I would do... I'd accept it, but say, "you know, since eating healthier, my stomach just can't take this kind of food anymore." I would eat 1/2 of it, tell her thanks and then put the rest down. Later, I'd try to work it off if I had time... but I wouldn't beat myself up over it if not. It's hard to turn down gifts of food.

Knowing how I am, I probably would have eaten the whole thing anyway... regret it for a little while and then try to balance it out with healthy food the rest of the week.

I would just eat a small portion of it and act like I am stuffed!

I usually eat a few bites and feign fullness. That way they're not offended but I haven't ruined everything.

    Thanks for the advice!!

I didn't eat the entire hotdog and 3/4 of the drink is sitting in my garbage can right now..

And Hotmomov4 I did tear a strip out of him when I got home.. really why did he get me so f***ing much.. juice would have been fine.. haha..
I wouldn't say that his mom was in competition with me, we both give each other advice.. although i would like to lose the weight faster than her.. haha.. maybe a little competition but who doesn't want to lose weight faster..

the way my guy is, he'd be eternally grateful if I told him I wasn't hangry and took the drink but left the hotdog. He's like a garbage disposal- he can eat anything anytime. lol. I would have enjoyed the drink though!

I have become more specific in my requests. I never leave it to someone else to get me food. I remember when I would have thought a coffee drink was good for me (has milk in it, right!?)

With appetizers I always make a selection I will eat, or have accounted for in my cals for the day. Seems my friends dont mind switching to muscles marinara after all!
