Why do I feel the need to stick up for others?

I don't know if anyone else has this issue but...

Most of my life I was made fun of because of my weight. I was in a 6 year mentally and sometimes physically abusive marriage. After I left, I vowed that I wouldn't ever let anyone pick on my family or friends...and it could be the smallest thing said and I'm ready for war - seriously! I feel like attacking (not physically by any means) them. Then it takes forever to calm down.

But the crazy thing is, when someone is cruel or mean to me, I just tower down and take it. Is this a self-esteem thing? An anger thing? I don't act out on my anger, but I do get very angry. Does anyone know why I'm like that? I'd love to be level headed like my sister...

    it could be self-esteem. maybe try talking with a qualified professional (therapist, counselor, social worker) about this. being in an abusive relationship can wreak havoc on your psyche. good luck!!
