Can anyone figure this out?

So, I gave away my treadmill on Craigslist for free because it wasn't powering on since we moved it to our new home. Anyhow, we then decided to buy a $500 elliptical, put it together and ITS not powering on. We tried plugging other things into the outlet and it works fine. I will be so mad if I just gave away a perfectly good treadmill(only 3 years old!) because of an out let issue! Does anyone know what the problem could be?

I am sure if this group can hang a guy based on nothing but nonsense we can solve this problem as well....is the cord to the machine intact?0 -
LOL:laugh: - yes, it is plugged in and my husband checked all the connections, which are intact.0

is there a manual for the new machine? most often there is a trouble shooting section0 -
how many watts of power does the elliptical need? if other things are working, but the heavy hi-power equip isn't working... maybe you lack the capacity for excess wattage in that part of your house? can you use a regular vacuum cleaner on that outlet?
I'm no electrician, but I had an added on room once that only had about half the electrical capacity of the other rooms... poor electrical planning?0 -
This may sound stupid but did you get on it and start moving before you hit the start button?0
-
Try a different outlet. You may have a loose connection inside the one you are trying and its not capable of handling the amps to run and elliptical or treadmill.0

LOL, well put Dave.0 -
This is a really stupid reply but is there an extra power button. I have to do about 4 different things to get my treadmill to work..0
-
Your equipment might be protected from running with the polarity reversed (outlet is wired backward). You can get a little gizmo from about any department or hardware store that plugs into outlets and lets you know if they are wired correctly.0

Haha.. I didn't think it would help much. It's all the advice I can give though.. Doesn't sound so impressive next to the manly posts about wattage and such.. :grumble: haha0 -

Nope, its not the power button:sad: This sucks! Its also not the outlet(I don't think because I plugged the vacuum in and it worked just fine)!0 -
I asked my husband what he thought the problem might be... here are some thoughts:
When was your home built? New Construction houses are required to have Arc fault protection in the bedrooms. If you are trying to use it in a bedroom, you might want to try it in the family room or the kitchen (as the kitchen is generally designed to run things with motors).0 -
Dont plug it in the outlet in the wall use one of those thingamajigs LOL brain block you know the the strip that has like 6 outlets on it....u plug the strip in the wall and then the treadmill to the strip...rofl i cant believe i can not remember the name for it ....its got the little red button on it for reset/....we use them for our fitness equipment at home0

Our home is a new build and we were trying to use it in the loft. I realized last night that the plug is only for the screen (lcd) to light up and change programs/resistance. So, I don't think it even requires much voltage at all. Rrrr! This sucks bad! I'm so glad you are all offering suggestions though:flowerforyou:0 -
The problem is officially SOLVED!!!! I learned today that my husband is HOTT, but NOT handy:laugh: He didn't connect one of the important wires.....this was discovered because I took everything apart and put it back together. Thank you ALL for your help/input! I can now start using my new, and most importantly- FUNCTIONAL elliptical! Hooray!!!:drinker:0
