Weight training for girls

I brought up this topic on another forum and received a lot of different views. Just wondering what thoughts are on this site. I have a daughter who is 14. Last summer I started her on weight training (5x5 stronglifts) She is skinny but stronger than she looks. Started with very light weight. If she could not use the 45 lb barbell then she used 15 or 20 lb bars. My hope was to get her stronger for basketball and it seemed to workout this yr. Again, light wt to start and she did not progress unless she felt comfortable with the added wt. Has anyone gone thru this.... meaning starting lifting fairly young. Any other advice for getting stronger at a young age. Someone elses experience is always worth listening to.
