Going Vegan

Hi everyone! I'm looking for a little advice. I'd like to go vegan, but I'm finding that really difficult. Is it easier to give up animal products "cold turkey" or slowly wean yourself off of it over time?

I've been vegan for 6 years and when I first made the switch I was vegetarian for about a week. Vegan wasn't that much different than vegetarian food wise. That said, it is a learning process. Ingredients on prepackaged food are sometimes named so they don't jump out as being non-vegan. It just takes time to get to know your way around an ingredients label. Don't kick yourself if you accidentally miss something, especially when you're first starting out. That'll drive you mad.

If you're pretty athletic, I would recommend Brendan Brazier's book Thrive. He's a vegan triathlete who, through trial and error, came up with the best foods to eat and when to eat them. Also, Alicia Silverstone's, The Kind Diet is a pretty good starting book.

Why do you think this is necessary?
