I'm not sure if this belongs in "fitness and exercise," but it didn't really belong in the others, so here it is.

I was wondering if anybody has any good tips around posture. My posture is fine when I'm standing and whatnot, but when I sit I just slouch. I usually slide down as low in my chair as I can and I'd like to change this. I mean I know it's as simple as sitting up straight, so I'm not looking for tips like that. haha. I'm more looking for tips on remembering and reminding myself. I just don't even think about it until after the fact. :noway:

Thanks

I wish i lived in the Victorian times - or Any era that required women to wear corsets alll the time!!! that would do the trick!!!

Ask at your gym - they give great advice on certain exercises to improve your posture...

Or you could just sit with a plank of wood strapped to your back!!!

There's a new little device I just saw on the Doctors called iPosture. It attaches to your shirt and vibrates if you slouch. If I could afford it, I'd get it... I have the exact same problem as you. I do find that the more I work out and do ab work, the more aware I am of my slouching.

    Here ya go... http://www.iposture.com/

    Good Luck

Sitting on a cough, it's hard to have good posture. But something that helps me is thinking about my abs. I try and consciously tighten my abs while watching TV or driving the car, or working at the computer. In doing that small exercise, you actually have to straighten your posture at the same time for it to be effective. Two things accomplished :)

I've seen people in my office completely get rid of their chair and replace it with one of those big balls that you work out with. Kinda makes you sit up so you don't fall off!

I was going to suggest a stability ball also. Now I just need to take my own advice!

yes! get one. I used to have one instead of a chair in university. as a bonus you can use it to work out with when you're not sitting on it and they aren't very expensive- you can find them at Walmart.

Just an idea if the stability ball isn't available. From singing in choir for many years - it's best to sit on the edge of the chair with one foot forward and the other slightly tucked under you, or both feet shoulder width apart. I know this wont work for everything, but it may help if you try to sit as far forward in a chair as possible. I also need to take my own advice! Good luck and happy days sitting tall! :flowerforyou:

Wow... interesting. You know, this is the second modern day device I've heard of this week that made me think "wow, good idea," or "finally," but at the same time it had been around for a while and I just haven't heard of it. I'm starting to feel out of the digital loop (and old).

Oh... I think I could find a way to slouch. haha. I'd just lay on it. I'm not sure I'd want to replace my couch with one though. haha.

On a side note, stability balls also make great launching devices!

Pick a color or object, and every time you see that color/object, remind yourself to check your posture. Also, try doing counter-stretch exercises throughout the day. If you slouch forward, do stretches that pull your shoulders back, stretching will be on of the major things that will help you with your posture over time.
