I haven't been on the scale since December 23. On that day, I was down by 35 pounds - my lowest since starting this journey. Since then, I got through Christmas and New Years and felt pretty good. I've been doing Jillian's 30 day shred along with other cardio and keep reading that when you're doing the shred, the number on the scale goes up and to not worry because I'm replacing fat with muscle. I feel good and my clothes fit. but am still waiting for significant change. I'm losing some inches but not a lot and not where I need to lose them! I'm losing mostly in my chest and thighs as opposed to my gut and hips. Grrrrrr. I'm on day 5 of level 2 of the shred. Do you guys think I'm doing the right thing or am i a coward for avoiding that scale?

I'm with you! I've been working out and eating healthier since September and I haven't lost any weight! The scale has not budged and my clothes are a little looser, but I haven't gone down in size. I had to make a conscious effort to stay off the scale because i would get so depressed and then drink wine or pig out. I feel the muscle definition and all that jazz, but seriously. I really dig the Jillian DVDs. They're hard to do and so worth it, but I find the scale to be a major deterrent!

You can't target areas for fat loss. Patience. It'll come off when it's good and ready - for the majority of people, the stomach is the first to gain and last to lose. I'm the same.

The scale is completely unimportant. If you're shrinking, you're doing it right.
  • sometimes the scale will motivate you. i used to never check because i was scared but i feel now that i want to know ! i want to see if i can change it for the next time but i guess its all up to you.

Thank you for this cversey! I don't want to be a slave to that little machine anymore. It's amazing how it could completely affect my mood for the entire day! Good number - nothing can get me down. Bad number - my life sucks! I'm just gonna keep avoiding it!

I joined MFP the day after Christmas. I've lost weight....but not where I'd like to. I'd like to get rid of the muffin top. When I look in the mirror, my face is thinner, my thighs are thinner, my chest is smaller (it was small to begin with).....but the muffin top is still there. :o( I just started Jillian's 6 week 6 pack. Hoping that helps.
