Of a sauna?

I assume they serve some workout-ey purpose, but I don't know for what. Does it help your muscles heal? Should I be utilizing the one at my gym?

Thanks!

I always just thought the purpose was relaxation.

I think it's also to make you sweat... like losing water weight. But... I would assume there must be more benefit to it than that... people don't seriously think that just sweating is "weight loss", do they?

    it feels awesone for one...

it doesnt "heal" your muscles but the excessive sweating can relieve them a bit

I love a suana for the clean feeling and refreshed feeling of a great sweat without the workout

I highly reccomend a sauna experience

I use the sauna once a week. It makes my muscles feel good and is very relaxing. It also makes my skin look and feel great - when available,e g., at a spa I also like to use the steam room for the same reasons - so give it a try!

    From Yahoo:

Sauna stimulates the circulation and increases the blood flow to the muscles and skin. First heating up your body and then cooling off right after gets your circulation going, which is almost the same effect as doing sports (except you're not using your muscles).
You sweat because your body is trying to cool off by releasing water from the skin. That's why you need to drink lots of fluids afterwards. Sauna does not make you lose weight. If you weigh yourself afterwards, you will be lighter, but due to the fluid loss from sweating.

my mother in law bought a sauna for her house on recomendation from her chiropracter. the chiro said that if your in an infer-red sauna at 140 degrees cancer cells can't live and neither can some germs and bacteria that the infer-red sauna effects. it helps you sweat out impurities and relaxes your muscled. preventing the calcium deposits in muscles after a very hard work out.
that is what she told me her chiro said

you don't lose weight from sauna, it's just water what you lose and guess what it comes back as soon as you drink your water. it helps weight loss in a way that it tightens the skin so you don't get saggy and that's not a sure thing either. other than that it's just relaxation and general comfort why people go to sauna.

The sauna not only relaxes, but helps sweat out the toxins in your body, according to Dr. Oz...
    Best to you always,

well, it's not like you sweat in a different way than sweating from excercise... just excessively so... beside, sauna is dangerous if you have high blood pressure or other heart issues

I'm thinking that you can't raise your core temp this high or you'd be.... ya know. Dead. BUT I think it might be true for skin cancers?

You know that Bikram Yoga - it's done in a 98 degree room (or something like that) so your body can stretch deeper? That's what I use a sauna for - when I do use one - stretching - don't just lie there. The heat causes increased circulation, so your muscles get more blood flow, and can exchange out all the cellular wastes developed by contracting your muscles throughout your workout. As the wastes clear out of each cell, it relaxes - and you can stretch it more than you could if you were at room temperature.

Probably went way too deep there into physiology didn't I? Sorry about that.

I'll leave it at, IT JUST FEELS REALLY GOOD TO ME.

My Mom loves the steam room - but I always feel like I can't breathe because of all the steam.

    Have a great one!

My accupuncuturist says that sweat is very good for your body, that it helps to clense it

it seems like there is some research substantiating the idea that infrared saunas can have an effect on cancer and cancer prevention. interesting then again who pays for the studies and since a lot of the ones i found were by people who sold them as well. again you never know:smile:
