If a Person went over in Carbs could they ingest an equal amount of fiber somehow (fiber sure powder) to offset them ? (Sorry for the typo, I don't see a tab to change it).

Psst, fibre is a valid spelling. Just pretend like you meant to spell it that way.

Most likely the carbs have already been absorbed in the blood stream as glucose and stored as glycogen or fat.
  • For a diabetic watching their carb intake, the fiber can be deducted from the total carbs (for purposes of glucose monitoring) . Adding more fiber adds more carbs.

It doesn't quite work that way I'm afraid :/ fiber is a carb... you just don't count it in your net carbs. You subtract your fiber carbs from your total carbs ( since they don't count .) They don't negate sugar/complex/simple carbs. They just don't count :)

So if you eat some food that says 25carbs, 14 of it is fiber, 2 is sugar, 3 is other, and 6 of it is sugar alcohols, then you got yourself 5 net carbs ;) Well, a little more since sugar alcohols can be a little more complex than that but it's easier to just not count them :p

No the body is good at separating the fiber from the usable carbs. You will absorbs the usable carbs and expel the fiber.

Fiber is a carb. You can't undo one carb by eating another.

But it's helpful to have and does help with weight, so yay fiber. Or fibre. :)

I agree with the rest. Nothing can be "offset". it is still calories, foremost. But it is not a scenario where things "cancel out" so to speak. The decision has to be made before the limit is reached.
  • Fibre has been shown to reduce the intake of macronutrients if ingested at the same time and can slightly reduce the gi of certain foods, however the notion that you can seriously offset these carbs is flawed for all practical purposes, however getting your carbs from naturally fibrous sources such as nuts and vegetables is a different matter

What? The only way anything gets "stored as fat" is if you are eating in a surplus.

It may help with digestion but it's not going to off set anything or aid in weight loss.

as a long term diabetic and i am presuming this will differ for all depending on their insulin sensitivity, for me personally anything that has any form of sugar in it raises my glucose levels, even fiber.

But at least it tends to be a healthier carb than say a tub of pringles, drools. :p
