Cons and pros anyone? My mom and I re trying to rethink our diet. And would like to know what people think (healthy, hard to do, ect.) about being a vegetarian or doing the paleo diet.

I'm a vegetarian of nearly 16 years - lacto ovo vegetarianism for me is easy and healthy. I am trying to cut down on my grains and focus more on vegetables as my major carb source.

Any diet can be done poorly or well. You could go vegetarian, paleo, whatever - but maybe look at your diet to see what processed junky foods you could cut out as a start. Focus on micronutrient rich foods, trying to hit your macronutrient goals with those foods as far as possible.
  • I've been a vegetarian for five or so years, and I wouldn't go back. Be aware, though, that there are plenty of processed foods that are vegetarian (chips, cookies, most of your sweet and salty snacks). I can't say much about the paleo diet, though it might be a better way to avoid easy junk food for some people. Then again, it might be more time consuming and expensive. There are some vegetarian quick foods that are not so processed, like Amy's frozen meals, but they can become expensive as well.
