Hi folks, I wanted to share my simple discovery regarding my daily breakfast routine.

Everyday I would eat an instant, hi-fiber maple flavored instant oatmeal. Yummy, 160 calories, high fiber and good for you right?

Well... I guess if you are interested in watching your sodium there are better alternatives. The Maple/Brown Sugar Instant oatmeal is 260mg of Sodium!!

I now eat a plain instant oatmeal @ 100 calories and 80mg of Sodium and 1 TBS of real maple syrup at 50 caliries and 2mg soduim!

So, not only do I save 10 calories but I shaved off 178mg of sodium!

If you're looking for low sodium. try some muesli - especially if you make it yourself.

    Simple recipe:
    3 cups rolled oats
    1 cup barley flakes
    1 cup wheat germ
    1 cup flaxseed meal
1 cup trail mix (choose one that is mostly fruit based, and has no salt added)
    1 cup pepitas
    1 cup raisins

Mix up, and serve in 1/4-1/2 cup servings, along with 1 cup of milk. Pretty much the only sodium comes from the milk :)
