Hey all -

Question..

Has anyone ever found that your body (or someone you know) for whatever reason does not absorb nutrients? I have been battling with this for years and doctors are stumped as to why I am always low in Iron, Vitamin D, B Vitamins, and Magnesium. I take more than enough supplements a day and eat a healthy diet - but for whatever reason they don't absorb?

I have had my digestion checked out and I do have IBS but I wouldn't think that it would cause this much of an issue.
Any feedback is helpful...
Thanks!

Yea she said that I am on the 'higher side of normal' for celiac...

My primary is having me go back to a hemotologist next week but this has been such a long fight...and i'm wondering if they could be missing something..

they are wondering if this also has to do with the fact that after surgeries I had this summer...my body has still not healed :(

Some causes to investigate if you are having a problem gettings nutrients are:Glutton and Celiac Disease, Hypothyroidism, and other autoimmune disease.

So I have hypothyroidism, and I have scoured the internet reading lots of different things, but one of the things that I came across on is the correlation between Hypothyroidism and Celiac disease, so then I also read about Celiac disease.

Basically, if you have Celiac disease (Glutton sensitivity/intolerance), your body destroys your intestines and you can't absorb nutrients, and you may not have any other symptoms at all including stomach upset or anything, so you might never know that you have this issue other than your body doesn't absorb nutrients.

I don't know much about IBS since I don't have that, but I would think that could be related. I really would start with Celiac Disease and see what other things are out there that are related. And of course check with your doctors on any tests that they could run.

Yes, I know a child that does not absorb vitamins well. But I don't really have any advice, other than work with your physician as this child is chronically ill due to this and other rare digestive issues.

I just found out I have an intolerance to gluten...not full blown celiac, but all of my levels have been MUCH better since I stopped eating things containing gluten. I feel better too!! Hope they figure out what's going on soon...I was sick for YEARS before they figured it out.
