Are there any benefits to small amounts of milk chocolate?

I know dark chocolate has an array of health benefits, and I'm nibbling a square as I type right now... But, milk chocolate is my absolute favorite. I was wondering if anybody knows if milk chocolate has any benefits too. I'm not talking about full-sized chocolate bars, but just a square or two every now and then (like how dark chocolate is recommended).

Happiness? Not everything you eat has to have a health benefit. Sometimes you can just eat chocolate for happiness sake.

Agreed although I must say I bet most of the benefits has to do with seratonin levels.

I am looking for the health benefits of eating triple cream brie daily but have come up empty handed thus far.

Well, thanks guys. It was an honest question. I don't know what else I expected from MFP members.

A true thanks for the link though. :) Really appreciate it, Jorra.

    Joyful tastebuds?

If it fits in your calories and makes you happy, that's all the benefit you need.

Don't know what you were expecting. You did get very real answers. Milk chocolate could have some benefits if you are very choosy about which kinds. Mental health is important too. If a piece of milk chocolate makes you happy, that happiness can translate into other health benefits as well.

It's a lot easier for me to have chocolate in moderation than xanax in moderation. Quitting xanax was a b-word!

honestly, the milk, sugar and fat way out any health benefits at all.
Dark choco has less of those, so it can give you more benefits.

What's wrong with those things? In my link it shows some of the benefits come from the milk itself.

It gives my taste buds orgasms for about a week every month. Anything that can make me happy during that week is a benefit!!!

Eating small amounts of milk, sugar, and fat is not harmful.
  • I clicked on this because I thought it said chocolate milk, not milk chocolate. lol. oops. But there are benefits to drinking chocolate milk after good workouts.

Don't discount this (and variations of this sentiment posted here).

If you really enjoy milk chocolate, plan your calorie intake around it. Set up your calorie and macro goals so they include milk chocolate. You don't need to look for health benefits to justify eating food you love to eat. The fact that you love to eat it is good enough. Just don't go overboard, and fit it within your calorie/macro goals. (and that answer is the same whether milk chocolate has no benefits or cures cancer)

I don't care whether dark choc has more health benefits, it doesn't taste as nice to me as milk chocolate! Instead of getting a big bar though as its really hard to resist eating more chunks once you've started I get like a box of cadbury's heroes and only allow two at once.

I find the best time to have one is after my dinner as I'm full from dinner and get the satisfaction of a taste of chocolate, without ending up eating loads of them cos I'm hungry if I have one between meals I find I end up with 5 or 6 instead of 1 or 2! Natural yoghurt on strawberries with a small piece of choccy on top is yummy! Or grate a small bar over natural yoghurt or something?

Chocolate is one of the few known sources of the essential trace mineral chromium. I think that's both dark and milk. But as always... life is about moderation :)
