Booze makes it better... but why?

I'm not a big drinker, especially since I started MFP. Ever since college, however, I have noticed that upon getting very drunk I wake up feeling pysically and mentally better than I have in a long time. As a result, I have always made sure to get drunk every month or two. I've been feeling really blah lately, so I downed a big glass of whisky last night before bed and woke up feeling much better.
I'm think maybe this has something to do with how alcohol affects my sleep cycle. I used to think it just made me sleep better, but Benadryl makes me sleep like the dead and I wake up feling like I AM dead. I'm wondering if it actually interferes with my sleep, which can trigger extra seratonin production which can be helpful in the short term. I've never tracked how long the positive affects of a booze binge last - it's longer than a week and less than a month.
In any case, I don't think getting drunk every month is the best key to mental and physical well-being. Exercise works in the short term, but the effect fades very quickly. I feel great when I am exerciseing, but after a few hours I feel terrible.
Any ideas?

Getting drunk once a month is not bad ((Maybe I am giving bad advice?)). Just be very careful with becoming dependent on alcohol for sleep.0

It's probably totally psychological. You can cut loose, maybe deal with some demons while you're drunk ... just let your hair down and really relax. Then you wake up without that *kitten* on your shoulders.0

I advocate drinking booze as often as possible. It makes everything better...until I wake up the next morning...which is why I have to start drinking again.
It's really a vicious cycle!0 -
I, too, sleep like the dead when I'm blitzed. I think going to bed and lying down in a dark room when I have the spins is tons of fun, which probably makes me weird. However, I don't like to drink that often, and I'd say I get tipsy/drunk maybe once every two months or so. I don't drink at all in between the designated booze nights, and after this weekend, I think it will be a long, long time before I drink again.0
