Protein Bars- really?

I was at a Zumba-thon even yesterday and this place called Fitzee Foods was giving away samples of their protein bars. The girl said, "They have 14-18 grams of protein each!" When I asked how many calories each had, she reluctantly told me 280-490. That's a protein percentage of 14-20%. What a waste of calories! And it's not like Fitzee is particularly bad- Clif and Luna run about the same.
Why are these things called "protein" bars?
Things that have a higher % of protein-to-overall-calories:
Peanut Butter: 15%
Broccoli: 27%
Hard Boiled Egg: 32%
Edamame: 43%
Roast Beef: 63%
