getting rid of smoke smell in clothes?

So, I have lost quite a bit of weight so I posted my bigger clothes on the classifieds. Well, someone asked me if I would be willing to trade my clothes for her clothes as I need a smaller wardrobe and she now needs a larger wardrobe.
However, upon getting them home I have noticed that they smell of something---like she tried to mask it to cover up the cigarette smell. I really love the jeans as they fit me perfectly and are Miss Me brand jeans and are normally quite expensive. Does anyone here know how to get rid of cigarette smell out of clothes? If I can't get rid of the smell I might just have to donate it because I am afraid of it getting into contact with my other clothes and making them smell as well. I also don't want it around my kids...has anyone ever had to clean cigarette smoke out of clothes before? I just doubt a regular washing is going to do the trick...
Thanks for any advice...

Vinegar is the best thing I can suggest. It's supposed to cut out smoke and animal smells. I've never used it for smoke odour problems, but pet odour yes. It worked if it wasn't too bad (depends on how long the clothes had been exposed, and to how much). I imagine it will be the same thing for the cigarette smell.
Soak it in some vinegar, and then wash it a cpl or few times.
If it doesn't work by then,...unfortunately you likely won't be able to get it out.
I hope it works for you though! GL

I hope you can get it out. Miss Me pants are nice! I will get smoke in my clothes when I visit my parents house since they smoke like chimneys and it takes a wash to get it out. Don't usually have an issue after that.0

If you really like the pants, take them to the drycleaner, they should be able to get out the smell.0
