Master Cleanse?

OMG- no food for 10 days!!!:noway: That can't be more than 300 cals a day!!! In all due respect, jdelise, this sounds nuts!!! Plus, depending on your health status to start, this could be very bad for some people- depriving your muscle and nerve cells of vital electrolytes. Don't forget- your heart is the most important muscle in your body. As everyone else has said- stay away!!!!
It would not be 300 calories a day, each drink is about 150 calories so if you drank 7-10 you would get 1050-1500 a day.
Again everyone, just wanting opinions on the subject, NOT endorsing this and have never even done it myself. Google gave me quite a bit of info (mostly good to be honest), probably should have just done that instead of instead :ohwell:0 -
Just please be careful0

Just please be careful
Thank you for the concern, however.... NOT currently doing this cleanse, nor have I before, just curious about it as I have been hearing its name quite a bit. Should have made myself more clear in my OP :ohwell:
I do appreciate your opinion though.0 -
this cleanse is drastic
you might investigate a one day juice cleanse,,,,I have done those and they can be very clearing...but again...be very careful and as you did here, get more than one opinion
good luck0 -
Has anybody tried this before? My husbands co-worker did, and had great results but I would like some different opinions.
Its 2 tbsp organic lemon juice, 2 tbsp grade b maple syrup (dark), 1/8 tbsp cayenne pepper. You drink 7-11 of these a day, no food for 10 days. On the 11th day you drink organic orange juice only, on the 12th day you drink soup broth, 13th you eat vegetable soup, and then 14th day you are finished the cleanse.
It's not to lose weight (although husbands co-worker lost 20 lbs) it allegedly cleans out the toxins in your body.
I know a lot of you are not fans of cleanses (I'm still on the fence myself) but I would like some opinions.
Thank-you!
no food for 10 days? is this a joke?
how do you keep a moron in suspense?
I will tell you tomorrow
not eating for 10 days, are you friggin' kidding me? Unless your doctor is going to personally supervise this and you have a real and VALID reason for doing it (and by that I mean not one that involves "oh, it worked really well for so and so") then I'm gonna go with a no.0 -

I feel like i'm talking to myself here... NOT on this cleanse, or even really considering it, I JUST wanted to hear opinions on it.
I should have been more clear in my OP that I am NOT on this cleanse right now, nor have I ever tried it. I am simply curious about it and have heard it mentioned quite a bit lately (and not just from 'so and so'). I would never do anything based on someone else's experience, and I would never do anything that affected my health without consulting my doctor much like I did when I started counting calories.
Again, I posted this on a discussion board to discuss, hoping to hear some opinions and information possibly from people who have tried it considering this is a health orientated website. Next time however, I will be sure to stick with google when it comes to questions pertaining to this kind of thing.
Thanks for your input though, I did want to hear honest thoughts.0 -
I find it interesting that everyone's completely against the cleanse in this post, which I do agree with. It's nothing personal against you original poster, but eating a healthy diet and exercising is what your body needs speaking from a nutritional standpoint. Depriving it of food and nutrients for days on end has no benefits.
yet last time a cleanse/detox post was posted , the original poster got a bunch of "Oh awesome, you go for it! Ignore the haters! They're so mean" type comments. It was very ridiculous and full of ignorant comments.
the post i'm referring to: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/45054-9-day-cleanse
Quite a discrepancy on this forum i've noticed.
And for the record, there is just no scientific literature that proves any benefits to doing any cleanses or detoxes. your body does that just fine. Eat healthy and your body will do the job it's made to do.0 -

Please don't take any of this personally. It's not directed at you!!! Most of us just feel that this is extreme and worry about ANYONE attempting to go through this. We are not insinuating that you are, or ever will, go througth something like this! You asked for opinions, and you got them!! :flowerforyou:
AAAHHHHH! How do I get out of the quotes????0 -
This does bring up an interesting question though...if when you don't give your body enough calories and you go into starvation mode and gain or maintain your weight, how come when you lower your calories to practically nothing on say "The master cleanse" people lose weight...I did when I did it, Beyonce did, a lot of people lose weight doing it(you might gain it back, and it is not healthy but thats a separate issue).
How come people who literally are starving don't gain weight, I mean you don't see people in countries where there is no food weighing 200 lbs...but when we don't eat enough we gain??? It is very confusing to me and I don't know the answer....
I will also add...when I was sick last month and ate a can of chicken soup everyday for 5 days and some crackers...I didn't go into starvation mode, I lost weight...it is a conundrum...anyone know the answer?0 -

They are legitimately, chronically starving. We are just undereating. It takes years for anorexics to look anorexic. It takes several weeks to die of starvation if you have water available.0 -
I never thought this post would spark the reactions that it did... its all good though because thats what discussion boards are for. I appreciate all of your opinions, after all that is what I was seeking.
Anyways I hope you all have a great night, and rest of your weekend. :flowerforyou:0
