Does anyone else here think that MFP is providing way too low of a goal for protein or am I going crazy here?

I agree- it's has low numbers for protein and fiber.0

I customized my settings to increase my protein percentage and fiber.0

You can change it. Even if you use the recommended setting you can go in the custom setting afterward and just change the % for protein, fat, and carbs.0

It's got to be low...'cause some days I actually hit it! :happy:0

it's a bit low for me.0

Research has shown that a moderate protein diet is more efficient than the "traditional" diet that the default MFP is set at. Protein builds and maintains lean muscle to burn fat more efficiently.
A "moderate protein" plan often consists of 40% carbs, 40% protein, 30% fat. But experiment and find what works for you ... I have mine set to 50% carbs, 30% protein, and 20% fat.0 -
I go over according to the goal every single day. I always go over. I do better on a high protein diet, so I don't even bother looking at it.0

That's the RDA for protein.
.8g per kg of bodyweight for a sedentary person
and 1.2-1.7g per kg of bodyweight for an active person depending on their training regime and whether they're on a calorically restricted diet.
Mine's right at 1.4, which is a value for both calorically restricted and muscle-maintenance active populations.
I'll also add that it works out to about 20% of my daily calories from protein, which is only 5% more than what MFP recommends. You can eat 30%+ of your calories from protein, but a lot of it will go to glucose production. Normal renal clearing has been found even in diets containing 2.7g per kg of bodyweight. But carbohydrates and fat spare protein for its intended use.0 -
Me too (I go over on the protein a bit each day). I do better on a more high protein diet. I usually eat a zone perfect nutrition bar at breakfast, and another one for a snack at some point in the day. Those two bars add up to usually 28-30 grams of protein a day. When you factor that in, along with the other protein I consume, that's why I am usually over what MFP set for me. But protein keeps me going so I don't worry about it.0

Jenny Hey, hey, hey!!!!
Dinner went OK...she made two comments; one addressing that I have actually had a whole piece of eggplant parmesan, and the other one was more like a gesture, you know- the EYE because I switched my tiramisu (bigger piece she gave me) for my husbands piece (which was smaller). I noticed the look and asked her "WHAT?", but my husband took my hand, looked at me and kissed me telling me he loves me... So...I calmed down. Thanks for asking!
As for protein, I also noticed higher numbers work better for me. I want to thank everyone for answering! That was very helpful!!!0
