Confused about how much I'm supposed to be eating

I know it should be simple but hte food/calorie thing has got me a little bit confused.
So after entering my data and goals, the myfitnesspal says I should be eating 1200 calories a day.
So that's what I've been trying to do, and if I do go over the 1200 it turns red, so I figured that must be bad?
But then when I read it, it kind of seems like I should be eating more?
For instance right now these are the numbers...

725 Calories Remaining

Goal 1200
Food 1042
Exercise -567
= Net 475

So since I'm pretty close to the 1200 calories at 1,042 I figure a really small snack and I'm all done eating for the day, is that right?
Please, any advice would be great, I'm really new to this site and just trying to figure things out.
Thank you,
~mc

  • Your excercise has used up needed calories so you now have a lot more calories that you can consume. They say it is best to eat anywhere from 50-75% of your exercise calories to leave a little room for miscalculations. So you can definitely have more than a snack because if you don't you will slow down your metabolism by not consuming enough calories.
  • Ok great! Thanks for the input, I just wasn't sure
