Fake Tan + Exercise

Soooo, it being summer and all I really despise my pale skin. Yet, skin cancer rates being so high in Australia, I cannot tan in the sun. So I'm getting a fake tan done on Thursday. My concern is will the sweat cause any running or weird streaks after I exercise?

Are you getting a spray tan?0

It shouldn't, as long as you let it dry, because if it did, all those bodybuilders on stage would be streaky.0

This. If you are getting a spray tan, I think they tell you to wait 24 hours before doing any exercise, because it will streak otherwise. If you wait long enough, you'll be fine!0 -
I know what you mean!~ I grew up in Florida, and have had melaoma... won't touch a tanning bed:( My family laughs, but i don't care! LOL If i want color, i rub on my tan now. I've tried many.. and the one i like best is Sublime Bronze. It dries quickly and does not come off. I've tried the salon spray tan and it stayed wet feeling for the first day and did rub off on clothing, sheets, etc. ( I was told this is normal )... I'll stick to rub on thanks:flowerforyou:0

If you properly prepare, and maintain your skin - It should not be an issue.
Exfoliate skin well BEFORE tanning to remove excess loose dead skin cells (these detach daily in the millions, and what makes the tan fade, but also work loose when you exercise and sweat heavily, wear snug clothing) These are what the tanning product tints brown.
I like Nylon Mesh bathing gloves with plan non moisturizing bar soap (in the USA use Irish Spring Original, in the UK Boots Body Bar in Blue or White is great) No moisturizer bars, like Dove, Oil of Olay - they coat the skin with a moisture layer which can effect tan penetration, and also cause more rub off on clothing..
Gloves work better then a washcloth, loofah, or scrub.
In the USA they are in drugstores, and home stores near bath sponges. They are a rough nubby plastic mesh.
After skin is clean and dry - DO NOT apply and lotions or oils before tanning. Tan should be applied to clean dry lotion and product free skin.
Leave tanner on skin for 8-12 hours, depending on product, type, and tech recommendation. Shower BEFORE exercising to get all excess product off of skin. Tan will darken over 24-72 hours, even after showering.
Do not moisturize skin just before dressing or exercising, as this can increase product rub off onto clothing. (the lotion picks up tinted dead skin, and rubs off on garments)
This will prevent normal rub off onto clothing, though you may have a bit of discoloration inside clothing edges where tight garments rub on skin, This normally comes out with laundering. If you see more discoloration from sweat, then check that you are well exfoliated before tanning.
You can also opt for a light bronzer product, (some solutions have a very dark temporary bronzer, some have a light one) or a clear blend (bronzer free) which will minimize discoloration on snug sweaty garments.
When showering daily, use a soft cloth or mesh poof, and a plain shower GEL soap. Avoid Dove, tends to fade tans fast. Bars will cause fast tan fade.
Daily you can moisturize the skin lightly to help keep skin supple, and slow tan fade. Allow moisturizer lotion to dry on skin before dressing. You do not need an oil free version, thats a myth.
Tan normally will last about 5-7 days, and you should exfoliate well, and re do it once a week.
If you exercise and sweat heavily, you may notice a bit faster fading - just reapply more often.
I am Spray Tanned year round, (I apply spray solution at home by hand) and exercise heavily everyday. So it can been done.
If you are wet and sticky, long after being sprayed - your technician applied to much solution to your skin, or the wrong type for your humid location. You can also lightly dust skin with a body powder after spray has dried on skin, this is great in humid environments, to help skin feel less tacky.0 -
you do not need to wait 24 hours before exercising. You can do it within 6-8 hours - after your shower. You will not streak. The tanning ingredient DHA has finished absorbing into the skin after 6-8 hours - so anything you do at that point will not cause streaks. BUT the temporary cosmetic bronzer on skin surface will run, and drip if you sweat before showering it off. This will not effect the developed tan however. But looks funky.
A solution is made up of two parts - the active tanning ingredient, commonly abbreviated DHA - Dihydroxyacetone - a plant based skin colorant, that colors dead surface skin cells.
And the temporary cosmetic bronzer that creates the visible brown tint on the skin (made from food grade colorants, like those used in Kool Aid) the temporary bronzer is made to wash off in the shower. This is what you see run from sweat, if you do not shower it off before working out.
I work in the Spray Tan industry (20 years experience)
Body Builders above, have a spray tan applied, and already developed - AND a heavy bronzer layer on skin - AND a setting spray or posing oil to minimize runs and streaks.
I just applied my tan, I will be exercising in about 6 hours.0 -
Wow thanks! I did not expect such awesome replies! I'm getting a spray tan done on Thursday
I have a moisturiser that I can add ontop of it after the first 24 hours then has a slight tint in it too and it's suppose to prolong the tan
hurray no more pale skin in SUMMER!
and to Contrary.. you had melanoma..? .. o.0 .. that's so serious and a horrible thing to have gone through! I'm assuming you caught it very early?0 -
lol I got a spray tan done on saturday and then I went to the gym on monday and my sweat was brown lmao thank god it didn't leave white marks on me but I was constantly using my towel so no one would see haha!0

I'm no pro, but I have done it a couple of times and they let me add an accelerant of some kind..like it helped the tan develop faster (6 hours) so I could shower before bedtime. I wouldn't work out before showering anyway bc I hate that sticky feeling0
