So this post is actually for my boyfriend. We have been together 3yrs , and in that time got fat and happy! Now we're both looking to be fit and happy. I am the ring leader, I got started here first and i'm the workout nazi. He has a hard time finding motivation to work out, and loves his fast food.
So he has been on MFP since this past Sunday, and he is just a grumbling about the food. I did not make him start working out or dieting or joining MFP.... I want him to change for himself. Anyways, he complains daily about starving... its driving me a lil bonkers, because I know he isn't starving, he just needs to adjust to the defiect calories...
But I'm posting to see if anyone has tips for healthy filling meals and snacks, to see if I can help him get over the hump... I'm even considering like a protein bar or appetiate supppresssers.... anything to help relieve his issue until he adjusts better. he's driving me bonkers.. i stay at the gym longer for some quiet time!!! just kidding!

I am a big guy and I plan out smaller snacks such as apples, fruit, beef jerky and I eat a lot of Fiber one bars too they are filling and not that bad calorie wise. By doing this I am never really starving.. I try to eat every 2-3 hours
breakfast 8
snack at 10-10:30
lunch 12:30
snack at 3:00-3:30
dinner by 6ish
popcorn snack at about 8pm
bed at 10
I can see where he is coming from, no one wants to be on a "diet" where they live their life uncomfortable, and there is a balance because if you are used to it you have to relearn your habits and with frequent calories approriate snacking it will take the hunger away and make it easier to stick to.
If you or him want to add me as a friend I will be glad to offer any help I can. My diary is open for him to review too0 -
you can find him at ryanfitman. I'm sure he'd appreciate the friend and advise.0

tell him to eat....just my opinion but you cant just go cold turkey ..you should first start by measuring and being accountable for what you choose to eat..by doing that you learn what foods are best filling....you cant do this for him he needs to choose foods and do this himself ..if he chooses to eat chips and in turn is hungry in 1hr then he will learn what foods best fill him.......working out will soon follow as he gets more energy etc....as far as filling foods go i think its just a personal preference ..each man must learn what best fills that tummy!.....he may just need 200-300 more cals per day to keep him satisfied instead of snacks everyones different good luck!0

lots of salads and grilled chicken or pork, without bbq sauce or steak sauce of course. chose lighter dressings, make your own. fruit is awesome and filling. drink lots of water or tea instead of calorie filled drinks. portion your meals out and space them evenly throughout the day.
my boyfriend can eat an entire pizza by himself, so he's trying to cut down on slice of pizza at a time. it's little steps. he doesn't have to fall directly into the calorie deficit right away. he can slowly shrink himself into it.0 -

I'm not a big guy, but I do have a big appetite and I've found adding protein powder to my morning oatmeal makes a BIG difference. When I eat plain oatmeal I feel satisfied after a 1 cup serving, but by adding protein powder, I'm totally full. I use BioChem 100% Whey protein isolate. One scoop is 90 calories and 22g protein. I add just half a scoop to the oatmeal to keep the total cals down, and it's plenty. It mixes well and doesn't affect the taste.
Another thing to be aware of especially since he's just starting out is to not cut your fat intake too drastically at first. If your man is used to eating a high fat diet, he will feel very hungry if he cuts out too much. Just choose healthier fats instead- for example, try switching from whole milk to 2%, then eventually to 1% or skim. Avocados also have lots of good healthy fat, and are a great way to make a salad more filling.
The other thing you can eat as much as you want without worry is lettuce/mixed greens. Every night try making a HUGE salad (4-5 cups greens, sliced bell peppers, onion, tomato, cucumber, avocado, carrots or whatever else you like) and eat that before dinner. It will really help your man feel much fuller and stay full. You might also pack a salad to eat with his lunch too to keep him full during the day. Just make sure you choose a low calorie dressing and only use a little bit of it, otherwise you defeat the purpose. A big salad like that can still be less than 200 calories with dressing if you do it right.
I have a big strong man at home too and I know the perils of trying to please him, and sandwich thins just don't cut it! lol0
