    LOL this thread keeps re-surfacing!

    invariably it leads to other mis-spellings that drive folks crazy:laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

    there are a lot of teachers on MFP, and we HAVE to fix mistakes when they crop up so often.

    example: using apostrophes for more than one of something instead of possessive, as in 3 CD's for a dollar

    Agreed.

    The misuse of the apostrophe to denote possession can be worse than using it for other purposes, as in "the teacher's husbands" :wink: Unless, of course, the teacher actually happens to have multiple husbands.

    "Lose" and "loose" is tough...sort of like "nose" and "noose" :laugh: :grumble: :wink:

    if the pronunciation were so different (such as nose and noose) I think it would be easier to remember, but unfortunately, lose has the "ooo" sound, and in most words, that sound IS spelled with a double "o."


    Stupid English!! Not a very orderly language. Always breaking its own rules!!
