Hi, I know there are tons of topics like this but I still want to ask this in a new thread...
I've started my diet and exercise "program" 3 weeks ago. I've been eating around 1800 - 1900 calories a day so that I don't feel hungry and so that I don't get my body into starvation mode. My weekly exercise program consists of 7 x 50 minutes of swimming about 3 - 4 x 25 - 30 minutes of running and I sometimes go to the gym to exercise on the rowing machine (at least 40 minutes). I already built some muscle (mostly from swimming) my stamina has gone up rapidly, I haven't been depressed since day one (which is what pushes me forward a LOT) and I sleep a lot better. These are the things that are really nice and I'm going to keep this up just because of them but I honestly haven't seen much change in my physique (except for the muscles building up). I'm not keeping track of my weight as I don't have a scale (I have one at home but not at the dorm where I live right now so I weigh myself only once every few weeks) + I know it can change rapidly because of water exchange in the body and muscle gain and other factors.... What I'm really looking for is a visible change in my body composition which I haven't really seen yet (again: except for the muscle gain).

That's why I ask you: Should I change something? Or should I just be patient because 3 weeks are not enough?

  • Its sooo hard to notice a change in our bodies because we see ourselves everyday so we dont notice minor changes. Definitely stick with it, losing 1-2lbs a week wont make obvious changes on your body until a few months have gone by. But you can see if there is a difference by buying a pair of jeans that are a size smaller than you usually wear. Try them on every 2 weeks or so, eventually you will fit into them!

You seem to be doing good with your cardio and strength training. IF you don't have a scale, measure your success by how your clothes fit. Are they a bit loose now? Sometimes you don't always see a scale result, but if you feel more motivated, or have more energy/stamina/endurance since you started your program - then this too is a difference. Also, I suggest you get a measuring tape take your dimensions, sometimes its easier to see more accurate results that way, even if its half and inch.

    Good Luck!
