That god awful stomach!!!

I have had a bit of a step back when it comes to my weight loss. I only want to lose about 5kg, I am not overweight but I had put on a bit of weight over the last year and I want to get back into my old clothes, certainly before my trip overseas (where I am sure I will pack on a bit!!). I got down to losing 3 kg in 5 weeks, with training 5-6 days a week, cutting out processed carbs and only really having one 'treat' a week. I'd been having protein (Bulk Nutrient Whey Protein) shakes twice a week with banana, I have been finding it incredibly hard to shift this weight, maybe because there is only those last few to lose(??), either way, I am not happy and I want to change that fact, regardless of how much or how little I do weigh. I just dont know why it takes so long!
I was very determined. I'd be a comfortable size 10, but then there is my stomach. Under my belly button to my pelvis I just have this (what I call a football shaped) stomach! I appear constantly bloated, or pregnant looking. Even after completely cutting down on sugars and most carbs it still didn't budge. I've been to the doctors with real concerns regarding it and the doctor simply looked at me and said 'just exercise more'... yeah great advice thanks doc!! (not!)
ANYWHO... my question is does anyone have any advice for me and my stomach?! Sit ups and ab crunches will not blast the fat away, so I don't know what to do?
