Late night snacking?

I'm pretty good at not going over the calorie count, but lately i've been up late doing assignments and find myself needing to recharge-- which results in me going over my calorie count for the day. I usually have an english muffin with jam or peanut butter to hold me till i go to bed, nothing huge. what do i do? anticipate the late night hunger and leave some calories over the day to make up for it? Or is the fact that I'm still up mean I'm burning more calories then if i were sleeping so i probably burn it off anyway? Not sure what to do/think

  • You think you're hungry, but odds are you're simply tired. Hunger is the go-to signal your body gives you, so that you can get some energy. If this has become a habit, then I would recommend you set some calories aside for it or work out a little extra the next day (seeing as your body doesn't know the difference between today and tomorrow and goes by a weekly deficit).

    Some snack ideas:
    - Berries are a nice go to and easy to munch on (you can make a berry salad - appealing to the eyes and pallet)
    - 1 Apple, cored and halved horizontally (looks like a mini bagel), 1 tbsp of peanut butter and sugar free jam (199cals)
    - String cheese and nuts
    - Avocado and tomato salad (1/2 avocado, cubed + 2 whole tomatoes + 1/2 tsp olive oil + dash of sea salt = 225cals)
    - Hard boiled eggs, halved with drizzle of olive oil (2 eggs for 125 cals)
  • Well I usually finish my last meal around 7...and then feel the hunger around 12, so with 5 hours in between I'm sure its legit hunger. Thanks so much for the advice though!:) I'm looking forward to giving those snack ideas a try!
