Seriously Mr Scale?

One month of dieting and exercise and 3# gained. Seriously? I haven't always dieted with a lot of knowledge or common sence but I can guarentee you that I could make the scale move down in 30 days! Until now....

I guess I'm at a loss for words. I feel like I'm eating all day long just to get the calories in that I'm supposed to and thinking with every bite that this is dumb! I don't go to the gym and burn 5000 calories working out all day. Sarcasm there...but I do eat back at least half of my exercise calories that I burn a day.

I used to just go with 70-800 net calories a day and then read where that is so bad and such so I changed up. Ate what I am supposed to and made smarter choices with the calories I had and now.... Hmmm

If anyone has a clue, suggestion or remark, please feel free. My diary is open and any help would be appreciated.

On a happy note...I noticed several of my friends here had weight losses this morning! WTG and congrats! I'll still be cheerleading you on! LOL!

I wish I had some words of wisdom and solid advice. You and I have put our heads together and wracked our brains over this. I'm hoping today you'll get a lot of comments loaded with knowledge and strategy. See you in a bit.

Patience is my best recommendation, making a life change comes often at a cost, I am sure a lot of folks will have suggestions but it's your body and it takes time. Be consistent and it will start to improve.

My body is designed to pack on pounds and once the weight starts piling on, honestly, it just keeps going up. I weighed 209# in my 20's and so I know I have the ability to put that much on again! Just kind of worrisome! Thanks for the kind words.

You have been following all the rules, it's just not fair, is it? Unfortunately, i don't have any words of wisdom or sage advice. Just know I'm behind you all the way, and have confidence that you'll find the right combination of eating/exercise that works for you.

I think your scale is an evil, jealous, mechanical beast that is intentionally deceiving you! ;-) Seriously, have you checked it for accuracy?

There are several factors that can affect weight loss. 1) Just eating a requisite amount of calories per day is no guarantee of weight loss or health benefit. Sugar and grains put weight on. So if you are eating those two items, those will affect weight. 2) If you are eating foods your body is sensitive to (could be healthy foods such as dairy, eggs, fruit, etc.), it will affect weight. 3) If you have a thyroid problem, you will not lose weight. 4) Your nervous system is "commander and chief" of your body and tells everyone else what to do. If there's something going on there, that will affect weight loss. All these things can be found and resolved.

Where would I start? I would make sure I'm eating enough proteins and fats (protein is the building block for the body - allowing the body to heal and repair; fats keep you full - as a matter of fact, coconut oil has been known to enhance weight LOSS). So, protein and fat at every meal. I would make sure I'm eating lots of veggies (raw is ideal). I would limit the amount of fruit I eat as well as limit (or completely stay away from) sugar.

If this doesn't do it, I recommend going to a practitioner (I prefer alternative ones) and get some tests done to see if something is going on with the body that is affecting weight loss.

Thank you ladies! I'll keep tweaking my numbers and see what happens. BTW..very little grains and 1 piece of bread all month! Lots of protein. Maybe more carbs and less protein? I'll juggle things around and see what happens! Thank again!

You only have 16 pounds to lose and you are 53. That's all I got. I lost 52 pounds at age 53. It was an eight month project.

I am 57. I am (once again) nine pounds from goal. That goal would put me just inside the high end of my BMI, and it is where I feel good. My body, however, has other plans.

I lost four pounds in all of last year. Four.

In all fairness, I didn't try that hard. Didn't log food (did that for three years, I think I have a grasp on numbers). Exercised sporadically. Meh, I know it is tough at this point, I've been there before.

Be patient. Set your goals to "Lose 1/2 pound a week." Exercise 3-5 days a week. It will happen. It's just slow going at this point.
