I had to share this little story with someone! Ok, so I can be a bit wordy so it might not be so little of a story by the time I am done
My son Cameron takes part in an after school program at the local Baptist Church called Awana. Every year there is an Olympic event that a select few of the Awana Club members take part in. Cameron has been attending this club for the last 4 years and has talked about the 'lucky kids' that get chosen for the Olympics quite a lot.
I believe very strongly in God but I do not attend church regularly . I classify myself as a baptised Catholic, born again Baptist, and practicing Methodist, with a love for all that choose to believe. My husband states that he does not believe in Jesus Christ (although I think that my own views apeal to him and eventually he will believe that someone up above loves him unconditionally). Although My Boobar feels this way, he is always supportive of our son and never denies the teachings of the church when Cam talks to him about it (yet another reason why I believe that I have one of the best men in the world! ). Seeing as part of the Awana group is learning Bible verses and such, Cameron doesn't really have a lot of help at home with this. I try, but honestly he is more or less on his own with it. (I really don't like that writing this out makes me see how true it is... guess I better do something about that ) Anyway... Cam has worked very very hard this year and just the other night at the dinner table he told us that he thinks he might be eligible for the Olympics this year.
Sure enough, I get a call from the Pastor today asking if Cameron would have my permission to attend an all day event in March for the Awana Olympics!!! There are those kids that truly have excelled in learning verses and ensuring their spots, and there are those kids in the 6th grade that may only participate this year. So the Pastor asked that I not tell Cam that he is invited to attend until he checks to see that there will indeed be space for him. I am so happy for my little guy right now! I am truly hoping that it all pans out and he is able to go.
Thank you for taking a moment to read and share in my happiness for a great kid that truly deserves the opportunity to shine...and in the name of God no less!!!

Beautiful!
And as to your hubbie... I firmly believe every single seed of openness to God will grow to fruition in time.
Especially those seeds planted by the tender innocent love of a child.

Yay for AWANA
I participated from K-6th grade, and loved all of it. I was also an AWANA Olympian, both on the Bible verse teams and the games. Very excited for your son! It's an awesome program.0 -
Aww thanks everyone! I grew up Baptist and had never heard of Awana until Cam came home one day and said that a friend asked him to go. Once he went that first time, he went back again and again and has loved it ever since.0
