Tastes kinda nutty. Texture is sorta brown-ricey, not like tofu at all. Very cookable, a million things you can do with it.
My favorite? Slice it into 1/4" thick slices. Drizzle with a bit of soy sauce or ponzu. Fry in a very small amount of oil until nicely browned.
I'll usually serve with stir-fried veggies and rice.
There are some unholy recipes which suggest using it as a meat replacement. Those people are insane and should be avoided. It's delicious as long as you don't try to call it "meat replacement"
(I keep forgetting what my profile pic looks like at the moment. Had a few Post->Ack moments...)0 -
I bought bacon like tempeh and it was good but have to use non stick pan or grease well. I bought a tempeh patty and it was horrible......fell apart, didnt cook well even in a greased pan....it was a different brand. It has its own flavor hard to describe, kind of nutty I guess. The texture is lumpy like compressed grains.
Its not my fave veggie thing to eat but it serves its purpose.0
