Hi everyone. I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know a little bit about me. To start off I just found out that I am a pre diabetic. This was after struggling with loosing weight for some time. I was finally referred to an endocrinologists who tried everything including vitamin d and after trial and error decided to prescribe me victoza which worked. For the first month I lost 15 lbs without trouble at all. Now I have regulated out the weight loss is much slower than it was. At the same time I was doing tkd but was told I would have to stop for a while on the exercising due to thinning of the bones, I now apperantly have osteo-arthritis in my knee from a previous injury. I hate going to the gym to workout as I have fears of people watching me. However going to the dojo is no problem because I know everyone there. I struggled everyday with my weight but am very tired at the end of the day or hurting. A friend asked me to check this out and so here I am. I am hoping to be able to find the support I need to push through the pain I have and get the energy and strength to workout. I also have to mention that I do have a fused L5-s1. So some exercises are very difficult for me. Anyways hope this tells you a little about me and what I'm struggling with at this time. I just wanted to say hi to everyone

Hi, Kathie. I struggled with prediabetes for about 10 years and finally pushed over into diabetes. I have been on meds for this for about 8 years now. I also thought I was controlling it pretty well until I started getting UTI's with sugar in the urine frequently. As I have watched and cared for my mother in law after she had heart surgery, strokes and ten years of being an invalid in diapers and feeding tubes before she died, all related to uncontrolled diabetes, I have finally decided to get serious.
I've lost 20 pounds on this site since October. It holds me accountable and lets me see what I am eating - REALLY EATING. I also love the support.
Something else that is common in those with diabetes are other autoimmune diseases. I also have an underactive thyroid and feel so much better since that is being treated. I also have allergies, gluten intolerance and high cholesterol/blood pressure. Almost all of these are things that can be improved with diet, exercisel, and healthier living. Good for you for deciding to do something now before the diabetes develops completely.
I'll send you a friend request and we can support each other on this journey.0 -
Hello!!! I had to double check that this wasn't my introduction. I to have had some fusions done, what L's of S's I can't remember, but they are in the lower back. There are some exercises that I am not able to do as well. I bought a used treadmill and started out walking just 15 minutes a night and have worked my way up to 25 minutes. I also have an Xbox360 Kinect and love to play Dance Central 2 (fitness mode). I have been using MFP for 4 weeks now and have lost 9lbs. Feel free to add me as a friend, I too could use the support. : )0
